ABOUT

DRAW FOR BIODIVERSITY offers scientific drawings, artworks, illustrated reports, and cartoons focused on biological and ecological research. Since 2022, a wide range of themes has been explored, including paleontology, anthropology, ethnography, herpetology, fluorescence, and biomimicry.

OBJECTIVES. The initiative seeks to create new imaginaries that connect humans and non-humans in the context of biodiversity collapse. It aims to represent living entities beyond anthropocentric views. This work at the intersection of art and science examines the role of visual arts in transforming our relationships with living organisms.

MATERIAL AND METHODS. All artworks and illustrated reports are based on scientific publications. They are created in situ or during scientific expeditions in collaboration with biology research laboratories and naturalist associations in France and Southeast Asia.

LEADERSHIP. The project is led by Estelle Cruz, an Architect and PhD in ecology from the Museum of Natural History of Paris. Currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Arts and Sciences departments of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, she investigates representations of nature in Thai comics. She is also a member and associate researcher at CEEBIOS, the Center for Studies and Expertise in Biomimicry in Paris, and the MAP-Aria laboratory at ENSAL - École d'Architecture de Lyon, France.

FUNDINGS FOR WILDLIFE. 50% the sale of artworks are donated to biodiversity conservation organizations. The artist has collaborated with several NGO in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Beyond raising awareness, can art financially support biodiversity conservation...?

ARTS AND SCIENCES AFFILIATIONS. Draw for Biodiversity is affiliated with several artistic associations and research institutions in France and Thailand.
